The lesson from OQO

A lot of people online are lamenting the business troubles of the OQO mini-computer. Wired's commentary is pretty typical: "When OQO’s excited developers showed me a prototype behind closed doors seven years ago, it was clear that the company was ahead of its time. Now, its time appears to be up." (Link)Baloney. OQO's time never arrived in the first place. I'm always sad to see any startup run into trouble; especially a device company, because they're so rare. OQO did some beautiful things...

Checking in on smartphone and Twitter usage

Over at Rubicon, we just did a quick consumer survey to check the status of a couple of hot topics in the tech industry, smartphone adoption and use of Twitter. I thought you might be interested. Here's a summary of what we found, and links to the full articles:Smartphone adoption: RIM leads. In the US, about 10%-11% of the adult population uses smartphones. RIM has just under half of the installed base, followed by Apple at about a quarter. The users of different types of smartphone have different...

Braids

Start by making a part in your daughters hair anywhere. I don't like down the middle parts so we part hers on the side that slopes toward the middle of her hair.French braid each side down to the end of her hair. Then combine them anywhere in the middle as long or short as you want to. You end up with almost a heart shape look. My daughter loves braids so we have really had to get creative. If you want you can pull some hair over the elastic and curl it. This hides the end of the braid and gives...

Simple Twist

Here is a simple but cute style for girls who want there hair down. I parted it diagonal to one side then pulled it into a ponytail and added a simple pull through twist. I then pulled another small section of hair following the same lines as before. Then I pulled it through a to make another twist. Once finished we flipped up the ends. Here is a picture of the top of her hair....

Twists

Start by deciding how you want your parts we did triangle parts around the front of her face.Once the hair is in an elastic pull the hair through the center to make a twist.Once all of the elastics are in place we did 4 ponytails across the front. Twist the hair.Pull all 4 twists to 1 elastic in the middle. Then we added a flower...

French Braid to Buns

Start by making a french braid across the front of her hair. Then pull the finished braid down the side into a pigtail. Then put the other side in a pig tail.Once the hair is in pigtails take small pieces and twist downward. I twisted 3 sets of hair. Then take the twisted hair and loop it under your fingers as shown below.I put an elastic band around the hair to make it stay in place.Below is your flower looking bun.Repeat on the other side to create a cute unique hairsty...

Split pony

As you can see my littlest doesn't have much hair so we have to get really creative to make it look cute. This is another simple yet cute hairstyle for her.Take a small row of hair in the front and put in an elastic. Then split that hair in the elastic into 2 pieces. Pull one piece to each side and put in another set of elasti...

Infant style

This one is simple and looks cute on your littlest one.Part the hair in three rows put elastics at the end of each. I then put the three ends into an elastic about halfway down her hair. Nothing fancy but a simple cute sty...

Corn Rolls into Flower

Start by parting the hair. I always part the hair I am working with and put the extra in a ponytail out of the way.To make a corn roll you have a couple of options rolling the hair like a french braid taking one piece of hair and rolling it around the other then keep picking up hair as you go. OR below shows taking the section of hair and pulling it out straight then start rolling in one direction this also makes a roll in the hair. Here we have 2 rolls attached together with an elastic. You can put...

The ugliest logo ever, but maybe it makes sense

Logo creation is a thankless task. Almost all of the interesting shapes and doodles were trademarked years ago. Unless you have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on artists and lawyers, and a lot of time, you usually settle on using your company name with no artwork at all.Or you can take the approach adopted by the newly-formed Symbian Foundation, keeper of the Symbian OS:Yes, that's really the new Symbian logo. I guarantee no one's going to sue them for it, unless it's the producers...

Thoughts on the tech industry bailout

I presume the big topic of discussion at the CTIA conference this week is going to be the government's emergency bailout package for the tech industry. I was surprised this morning when US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner replaced RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis at the CTIA keynote to announce the package, and ever since I've been scrambling to sort through all the details. A lot of it's still fuzzy, but here's what I've been able to figure out so far:--The largest single element in the bailout seems to...
